LDA Presents
Managing the Risks of Treatment with Dr. Leon Schofield Workshop

Friday, November 13 2009 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
LDA Life and Learning Services Presents
Managing the Risks of Treatment with Dr. Leon Schofield

Dr. Schofield will address the complications of providing treatment for the ADD and LD child. He will outline many of the unintended adverse effects of providing assistance to these children. These include:

  • Stigma, feeling different, less capable
  • Marginalized by peers
  • Seeking more help than necessary
  • Passivity no involvement with ownership in treatment
  • Developing complex avoidance strategies
  • Poor response to standard rewards and punishment
  • Poor response to any “failure” experience
  • Poor self image and lowered expectations
While providing help is necessary for these children, the negative consequences of providing this help can weaken the effectiveness of the helping effort and it may even have serious long term adverse effects. Dr. Schofield will provide strategies to counteract these unintended negative effects.

We will be offering the same workshop at 2 different locations for your convenience.
