Early Intervention


Birth to Three - During this stage, a child moves from being able to imitate familiar words and recognize the sound of a familiar voice to follow two - or three-phrase commands, sort objects by shape and color, imitate the actions of adults and playmates, and express a wide range of emotions.

The focus of this time period is on acquiring an awareness of self. In addition the very young child will begin to explore his/her immediate surroundings. They will begin to put words together, follow directions, and recognize letters, numbers and shapes.

Young children who are struggling may present with difficulties in the following areas, but not limited to:
  • Not crawling/walking
  • Not combining words
  • Not making wants known
  • Difficulty following directions
  • Not playing with others
  • Experiencing frustration
