(Central) Auditory Processing Disorders

November 7th, 2011

(Central) Auditory Processing Disorder or (C)APD is a general term used to describe the listening problems of children and adults who struggle learning through orally presented instruction.  Individuals with (C)APD often show similar behaviors to those with ADD/ADHD, Language Learning Disability (LLD) and other learning disabilities.  Because more than 90% of all classroom instruction is spoken, children with (C)APD are at risk of academic failure.

Dr. James Feuerstein will provide an overview of normal auditory processing, as well as description and differentiation of the most common types of central auditory processing dysfunctions. In addition, he will identify red flags that would lead someone to suspect a (C)APD problem might be present and ways to help children with (C)APD learn more effectively in the classroom setting.
