Workshops


LDA develops customized workshops to meet the needs of teaching professionals, medical professionals, supervisors, parents, employers, and volunteers in schools, businesses, neighborhood and community agencies.

All of LDA's educational workshops are presented by talented professionals in the fields of learning disabilities, ADHD, and related learning difficulties.

Below is a list of our current workshop offerings:
  • "Alternative Learning Styles" is an interactive, multi-sensory approach to understanding the different ways that individuals learn. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is explained and interwoven throughout this workshop. Participants learn to recognize their own learning styles and to understand how important this recognition is for individual success in school and work. (2 hours) $170.00.


  • "Introduction to Learning Disabilities" provides: a general overview of the nature of learning disabilities and their impact on individuals, clues that indicate possible learning disabilities in an adult population, and a heightened sensitivity and respect for individuals with disabilities. Simulations are used to help participants look at their own learning styles and challenge stereotypes. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "Strategies for Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities" This session is designed for teachers who work with students with learning disabilities. A complement of easy to use, research based strategies is discussed. Participants learn strategies they can immediately implement in their classrooms. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "Working with Parents of Students with Disabilities" This session is designed for teachers and others working with parents of students with disabilities. Communication styles, resources and advocacy strategies are discussed. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "How to Interpret Test Results and Individual Educational Plans (IEP's) for Students with Learning Disabilities" This interactive session is designed to familiarize participants with the process of interpreting test results. Discussion covers tools used to diagnose learning disabilities, the different types of learning disabilities and their implications for children, and how to differentiate learning disabilities from other cognitive disorders. (3 hours) $255.00


  • "Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder & Appropriate Strategies" This training covers the components of ADD/ADHD, from diagnosis to implementation of strategies. (3 hours) $255.00


  • "Strategies to Develop Successful Study and Organizational Skills" This session provides project staff with the skills to assist students in developing a strength-based toolbox for each individual student. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and Related Conditions" This session provides information and strategies for working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "Overview of Developmental Disabilities" This session provides a general overview of the major categories of developmental disabilities, their causes, characteristics and their impact on the individual. (2 hours) $170.00


  • "The Special Education System and Parent Advocacy" This workshop provides an overview of the special education process, including: how to request help for your child, the Committee on Special Education; the evaluation process; the Individual Education Plan, parent rights and responsibilities, and how to become your child's best advocate. (2 hours) $170

LDA will develop customized workshops to meet your training needs.

The cost for a 2 hour workshop is $170.00 and the cost for a 3 hour workshop is $255.00.
Note: An additional mileage charge (based on the federal IRS mileage rate) is applied for training requests outside the Monroe County area.
