A Commitment to Generations to Come -
For Generations to come
We invite you to create a lasting legacy for children and adults of our area by remembering LDA in your will or estate plans.
HISTORY LDA Life and Learning Services began in 1963 when concerned parents gathered as a united voice to provide advocate services for their children who were stuggling with learning issues at home and school. Out of this gathering, LDA was formed with a mission "to support people with learning disabilities and those who learn differently as they identify and achieve their goals."
TODAY
LDA Life and Learning Services employs over 180 full and part time staff who work with numerous school districts and hundreds of families in a ten county region of Upstate New York. We provide a wide range of personal services that focus on improving academic performance for students who are at risk for academic failure due to any number of cognitive learning issues.
Our educational mission extends to parents and the professional community by providing educational opportunities through workshops and conferences focusing on learning disabilities.
We continue to provide employment services, service coordination and housing needs for adults who struggle with learning problems.
THE NEED
It is estimated that more than 150,000 people in our region struggle with learning disabilities and other neurological impairments; currently we are serving about 2,700 of them. Clearly we must extend our reach ---- especially when there is so much at stake.
By national statistics, 35% of students with learning disabilities will drop out of school, and 62% of students with learning disabilities will be unemployed one year after graduation. More than half of the people on public assistance along with a high percentage of our jail population have an undetected or untreated learning disability or cognitive/ neurological impairment.
LDA Life and Learning Services can help to reverse these trends, but we need to touch more lives to do so. We are
constantly seeking ways to make our services more accessible to a larger and more diverse population. You, your loved ones and LDA
A planned gift to LDA is a wise and effective way to provide a more secure future for your family and the ongoing mission of LDA Life and Learning Services. There are many giving opportunities available from an outright gift to trust arrangements that benefit you and/or another person. You may make a gift during your lifetime, create a bequest through your Will or establish a trust that provides income for you and your family. Whether you choose a lifetime gift or a bequest, you can structure your giving to meet the needs of those closest to you.
